Chocolate and Wine Lovers

Our next evening is planned for all you chocolate and wine lovers out there. On Monday 22nd March we are holding a Wine Tasting and Chocolate social evening to get us into the Easter spirit. Sarah Abbott, a Master of Wine will be our special guest for the evening. She will help with making it our mission in learning about wines that are truly irresistible and enjoyable to drink. In addition we will demonstrate a chocolate themed treatment launched for Easter as well as some offers and extra goodies for you to enjoy on the night.

Boot Camp Blow Dry Promotion

Have you always loved how your stylist can blow dry your hair but never quite managed to do it the same yourself?.... We have just thought of a solution for your hair… On Wednesday 31st March 2010 we are holding an exclusive blow dry boot camp for our clients from 3.00pm until 8.00pm. Each session will be for one hour to go through a shampooing routine, product knowledge and blow drying techniques for your stylist to show you and for you to practice in salon. Each one to one session will cost £25.00 but that cost can all be redeemed against your hair care products on the day. This would make your blow dry workshop absolutely free if you wish to! A date for your diary

5th Avenue have planned a fabulous evening out on Tuesday 27th April 2010. We have booked out Saffron Indian Restaurant for the evening to raise much needed funds for St Johns Hospice in Moggerhanger. The evening will start from 6.30pm and the price of your ticket will include a lovely Indian buffet meal and entertainment. Ticket prices are £15.00 per person, any money made on the evening will go to the hospice. For more information or tickets please contact Kerry at the salon.

Thank You

It was lovely to see so many of our regular clients over the festive season having their hair and pampering treats for all the Christmas parties. This Christmas saw the launch of our new “Christmas Gift Wish List” which was an amazing success having happy clients receive that special gift that they really wanted.

In December we held a free raffle draw and entered every client who visited us for an appointment at that time. Over 25 prizes of treatments and products were up for grabs. Congratulations to all of our winners. We would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous year for 2010.

Kerry was asked to join the Princes Trust committee in August for Beds and Milton Keynes. It was a great honour to be asked she said. She is now helping with organising their annual Christmas Cracker Ball on Monday 21st December at the Park Inn Hotel with all proceeds going to The Princes Trust.

Rising Star Awards 2009

Thank you to all our clients who nominated us for the Bedfordshire Business Excellence Awards which are held every year at the Park Inn in November. Organised by Premier Newspapers, these awards recognise the achievements of leading edge employers and individuals. Ongoing Salon Training

Congratulations to Kay Jennings and Frances Ronan who have now completed their NVQ level 2 in business admin. Kerry qualified as an A1 assessor earleier in the year enabling her to take staff members through NVQ qualifications in Business Admin, Business Management and Team Leading. Joanne Picton, Anoka Miller and Katherine Moore are currently working towards their NVQ level 2 in Team Leading. Good Luck to them all.

There are many different companies that offer this treatment on the market to enhance the look of your own eyelashes but we have investigated and brought to you what we feel is definitely the best system on the market for our clients. After seeing Nouveau lashes advertised at prestigious Health Farms and speaking to ladies who have used the lash enhancement service we felt that this was the product we were excited to take on and talk about.

Personal Shopper Launched!

We had a fantastic turnout on the night and Elaine gave us an excellent talk based on how to utilise our wardrobes better, explain what clothing will suit our individual needs and how we can boost our confidence and learn to love our bodies. Midnight Walk For Charity

This years annual Midnight charity Walk held by St Johns Hospice saw over 800 women take part for the worthy cause. The planned walk was for 10 miles and so far £67,000 pounds have been raised. 5th Avenue sponsored two of the posts and donated gift vouchers for all the walkers who took part.

A Cut Above the Rest

This year 5th Avenue entered into the annual Redken RAP competition. Over two hundred teams entered from Redken salons covering the whole of the UK and we were completely overwhelmed to find out that two of our teams had got through to the regional finals at the NEC in Birmingham at the end of March. Liz and James were short listed for “Style Innovator” category; Carrie completed the team as make up artist. Anika and Lauren were short listed for the “Color Genius” category and Katherine was their make up artist. Both teams went down to Redken head office in London prior to the RAP event to complete their finished look within a one hour time scale and were pre judged and interviewed.

The RAP event is held for all Redken salons across the country and is a great opportunity to watch top stylists in the industry creating the professional edge for the latest looks on the street. The event attracted an audience of over three hundred people however there were 3 regional finals in total that salons could attend. Our teams had to create their look once again for the audience to see on the catwalk and a recording of the interviews were shown on the big screens.

It was a great achievement and a first for our teams to get through. Truly a memorable occasion to remember!

Las Vegas and Scottsdale Redken Symposium Trip 2009

Kerry put together a staff incentive package for one staff member to win a trip to the annual Redken education conference in Las Vegas and Scottsdale Arizona. Jo Picton won the trip and accompanied Kerry in January.

Over 10,000 stylists and salon owners attended from all over the world to attend seminars with some of the most elite educators in the industry. The UK and Ireland group went onto Scottsdale, Arizona for three days and attended further training seminars. Jo and Kerry took part in a team building exercise where there were 20 teams of four people who had to assemble a bicycle from scratch. Twenty young local students entered the room and were told to join our teams. These children were from underprivileged families who had not often received a gift let alone given a bicycle. The emotion in the room was absolutely unexplainable knowing that we helped to put a smile on the children’s faces and brighten up their day. A memory to be cherished forever.

Hot footing it for charity…..

Anika, Katherine, Claire and one of our clients Kay took part in the Fire and Ice challenge held at St Johns Hospice Moggerhanger in August. It involved the brave girls walking on broken glass and hot coals to raise much needed donations for St Johns. Well done to you all.

On the 7th September the team attended a team building day held at the Park Inn Hotel in Bedford. We had Peter Lunn who is a motivational and lifestyle coach come and join us for the day to promote how we could be more successful in the salon and improve our customer service to our clients.
