5TH AVENUE LOVE PUREOLOGY
Pureology was given an exciting opportunity to present their amazing hair care product line at The Chelsea Flower Show. Pureology was part of the World Skills Stand at the show featuring a learning zone to get people interactively involved. It provided an inspirational overview of how young people use knowledge and skill. The Queen was checking out the Pureology stand on the Monday! 5th Avenue were invited to help support this event. A big thank you to our senior stylist Jo who travelled down and showed her support by demonstrating hair up do's created with flowers.

Bedford Hair and Beauty Show
Our 5th Avenue team members entered the annual Brooks College Awards held on Thursday 26th May. Congratulation to everyone who took part especially Linzi Boyden for gaining a 2nd place in her hair category and Anju Masih for gaining a 1st Place in make up. The evening show held at the Corn Exchange showed some amazing hair styles, make up's and over all themed looks. Our 5th Avenue artistic team put together a showcase of fantastic work. The models looked stunning and the crowd absolutely loved us. Well done guys.

5th Avenue held their Hair Raiser Day at the salon on Saturday 19th February. Staff came into work for the day sporting wacky wigs or hair do's to raise money for St Johns Hospice, Moggerhanger. Clients were given the chance to buy raffle tickets on the day and various treatments and gifts were donated by the salon as prizes. Well done to our 15 clients who won a prize. The winning wacky look won a one day work experience trip to celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barton's salon in Covent Garden, London. £800.00 was raised in total, 5th Avenue would like to thank everyone who helped us to raise money from this event to help such a worthy cause.

In January 2011 Redken held their annual Symposium in Las Vegas and San Diego. Four of our 5th Avenue stylists Lauren, Jo, Teresa and Amanda attended the hair and business forums at Mandalay Bay along with 10,000 other stylists and salon owners from all over the world.

Aids Awareness at L'Oreal London

In October Jo and Lauren took part in a "Cut athon" at Redken head office in Hammersmith. 5th Avenue were extremely lucky to assist the Redken artistic team including celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford to cut as many heads of hair throughout the day. All donations given on the day were donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Our girls had an amazing day working with the Redken team and look forward to doing more with them in the near future. |

**** News Flash ****Rising Star Awards 2010The rising Star Awards were held on Thursday 11th November at the Park Inn Hotel, Bedford. 5th Avenue were finalists for the Customer Excellence and Champions of Learning. The evening was a spectacular event and attracted businesses from all over Bedfordshire. Hosts and guest speakers Ray Stubbs and Jimmy Greaves were the entertainment. We are extremely happy to announce that we won Customer Care Category and come runner up in the Champions of Learning Category.

Redken Hair Awards 2010
Last year over 200 teams took part in the competition which highlights the talent we have in Redken salons across the whole of the UK. Getting two teams through to the regional heats at the Birmingham NEC was an amazing experience for all of the team and to go on further and have one team reach the grand final stage in London really did make all of our dreams come true. We are really proud of our hair team for entering again for this year’s competition and would like to say a big thank you to Jo, Teresa, Amy, Anika, Lauren and Katherine for all putting themselves forward and spending many hours creating their models look. This year’s regional heats will take place at the NEC on Tuesday 11th May 2010. We would like to wish our teams all the best of luck. Please click on the pictures to see our model photoshoot.
Boot Camp Blow Dry Promotion
We would like to say a big thank you to all our clients who took part in our Boot Camp Blow Dry Day. We had the perfect solution on Wednesday 31st May for our clients to come into the salon for a one to one session purely dedicated to them. Each one hour session covered the techniques of shampooing the hair properly, product knowledge and what we would use to create that certain look and the overall blow drying tips to show our clients how to achieve that blow dry themselves. All sessions were charged for but the monetary amount could be redeemed against any of our Redken Hair Care products to encourage our clients to use the correct product for their hair at home. If this is a service that you or any of your friends would like to do as a workshop together please speak to Kerry.
Junior Soiree
This years Junior Soiree will be held on Sunday 6th June for all of our trainee team. Every year this event goes from strength to strength giving our junior team members the chance to show off their creations. They will be given a theme to think about and create their look, make up and outfit based on the theme throughout the day. Our evening show will start at 7.30pm and is open to anyone who would like to come along and see our future stylists work. If you are interested in attending please speak to Kerry or Kay.
Charity Curry Night
Our charity curry night was an amazing success. Held at Saffron restaurant we had 115 guests arrive to help us raise money for St Johns Hospice in Moggerhanger. During the evening we had entertainment from Lauren Luke and Crystelle a gorgeous Indian buffet and a raffle with some amazing prizes. We raised a total of £1500.00 and would like to thank everyone who either took part or supported us

Rosjke Hasseldine, author of “The Silent Female Scream”
Rosjke has recently moved to Bedford. Read her inspirational book that is changing women’s lives and relationships. For A Good Cause
Kerry was asked to join the Princes Trust committee in August for Beds and Milton Keynes. It was a great honour to be asked she said. She is now helping with organising their annual Christmas Cracker Ball on Monday 21st December at the Park Inn Hotel with all proceeds going to The Princes Trust.

Rising Star Awards 2009
Thank you to all our clients who nominated us for the Bedfordshire Business Excellence Awards which are held every year at the Park Inn in November. Organised by Premier Newspapers, these awards recognise the achievements of leading edge employers and individuals. We are proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for the “Champions of Learning” category and will be attending the Awards Evening. Many thanks for everyone’s support.
Ongoing Salon Training
Congratulations to Kay Jennings and Frances Ronan who have now completed their NVQ level 2 in business admin. Kerry qualified as an A1 assessor earleier in the year enabling her to take staff members through NVQ qualifications in Business Admin, Business Management and Team Leading. Joanne Picton, Anoka Miller and Katherine Moore are currently working towards their NVQ level 2 in Team Leading. Good Luck to them all.

Personal Shopper Launched!
We had a fantastic turnout on the night and Elaine gave us an excellent talk based on how to utilise our wardrobes better, explain what clothing will suit our individual needs and how we can boost our confidence and learn to love our bodies. Midnight Walk For Charity
The Midnight Charity Walk held by St Johns Hospice in May 2009 attracted over 800 women who took part for this worthy cause. The planned walk was for 10 miles and so far £67,000 pounds have been raised. 5th Avenue sponsored two of the posts and donated gift vouchers for all the walkers who took part.
Ascot Ladies Day
5th Avenue organised a coach to the annual Ladies Day held on the third Thursday in June at Royal Ascot. 37 staff, clients and friends dressed to impress for a wonderful day out enjoyed by all.
Pride in Bedford 2009
Congratulations to Kerry and the rest of the team. Kerry has won the adult acheiever category whilst the team was highly commended in the service with a smile category.

The Pride in Bedford Awards are aimed to salute the outstanding individuals and amazing organisations working so hard to make Bedford a special place.
A Cut Above the Rest
This year 5th Avenue entered into the annual Redken RAP competition. Over two hundred teams entered from Redken salons covering the whole of the UK and we were completely overwhelmed to find out that two of our teams had got through to the regional finals at the NEC in Birmingham at the end of March. Liz and James were short listed for “Style Innovator” category; Carrie completed the team as make up artist. Anika and Lauren were short listed for the “Color Genius” category and Katherine was their make up artist. Both teams went down to Redken head office in London prior to the RAP event to complete their finished look within a one hour time scale and were pre judged and interviewed.
The RAP event is held for all Redken salons across the country and is a great opportunity to watch top stylists in the industry creating the professional edge for the latest looks on the street. The event attracted an audience of over three hundred people however there were 3 regional finals in total that salons could attend. Our teams had to create their look once again for the audience to see on the catwalk and a recording of the interviews were shown on the big screens.
It was a great achievement and a first for our teams to get through. Truly a memorable occasion to remember!
Las Vegas and Scottsdale Redken Symposium Trip 2009
Kerry put together a staff incentive package for one staff member to win a trip to the annual Redken education conference in Las Vegas and Scottsdale Arizona. Jo Picton won the trip and accompanied Kerry in January.
Over 10,000 stylists and salon owners attended from all over the world to attend seminars with some of the most elite educators in the industry. The UK and Ireland group went onto Scottsdale, Arizona for three days and attended further training seminars. Jo and Kerry took part in a team building exercise where there were 20 teams of four people who had to assemble a bicycle from scratch. Twenty young local students entered the room and were told to join our teams. These children were from underprivileged families who had not often received a gift let alone given a bicycle. The emotion in the room was absolutely unexplainable knowing that we helped to put a smile on the children’s faces and brighten up their day. A memory to be cherished forever.

Hot footing it for charity…..
Anika, Katherine, Claire and one of our clients Kay took part in the Fire and Ice challenge held at St Johns Hospice Moggerhanger in August. It involved the brave girls walking on broken glass and hot coals to raise much needed donations for St Johns. Well done to you all.

On the 7th September the team attended a team building day held at the Park Inn Hotel in Bedford. We had Peter Lunn who is a motivational and lifestyle coach come and join us for the day to promote how we could be more successful in the salon and improve our customer service to our clients.
