The Bedford community boat the ‘John Bunyan’, has passed the 2,000 mark in numbers of passengers in just two months.
Individuals, families and businesses have clambered on board to make the most of the new attraction – which is extending its public trips season into October. The boat can be hired or chartered by businesses or groups all year round and has plans for special Halloween and Christmas events.
Taking a trip on Friday September 6th were two local businesses who joined forces to hire the boat: Park Woodfine Heald Mellows LLP led by partner Rae Levene and 5th Avenue hair and beauty led by Kerry Cash.
Rae Levene, a long standing member of the Bedford Business Improvement District (BID) board which sponsored the boat to promote visitors to the town said of the twilight trip: “It was perfect weather and quite something to see the town from the water, especially when lit up at night. This is an asset to the town and I applaud the volunteers who have given so much of their time to make it possible.”
Kerry Cash, award-winning businesswoman who took 20 of her team on board said: “Some of my girls had never been on boat, and never seen the sights from the river. It was a great party atmosphere.”
Creating the party sounds was former professional saxophonist Adrian Bullers. Now a professional photographer who has opened premises on the High Street, Adrian took a well known photograph of the John Bunyan Boat which has been used on Bedford Portas town team competition literature.
Graham Mabbutt, Chair of the Bedford & MK Waterway Trust volunteers who run the boat said: “This was exactly the sort of business and corporate evening which we want to see more of on the boat to help cover our costs.”
